ALL FUN AND GAMES

This may not be directly L&G Studio related, but it's the type of thing that keeps us inspired and constantly explore and play! 

One of my fav band, Lullatone launched this brilliantly fun interactive instrument called PATATAP.  It's an addictive app that lets one create lots of fun sound and visual compositions by tapping on computer keyboards or tablet device.  Its a perfect marriage of combining music, art and technology that can keep anyone entertained for a long time.

A Little Lullatone to Start The Day

It's been

awhile since I've shared any new music or videos. This was a recent found when I was checking out eettcc's blog.

I like this band, Lullatone from Japan...adorable group, adorable music, adorable video....


The sound totally reminds me of Kamie Kharie (one of my favorite Japanese musician).
The way they sing in such light breathy voice over the catchy Bossa Nova tunes....it's as if they're bunch of cute little kittens or puppies playing on the white sandy beach while wearing sun glasses.....it doesn't matter what they say or do.....they're just so captivating in every way....and yes....ridiculously cute and they simply make you happy. Smiley face.

Champagne Truffle: Henry Gift Shop project #6 (the final project) Tea Party reception, March 27, 2-4:30pm, open now through April 11

Champagne Truffles with Maki Tamura, Nicholas Nyland, Jennifer Campbell, Ian Toms and me, Saya Moriyasu.  5  artists along with Matthew Offenbacher transformed the space with wallpaper, live webcam of a cat colony, videos and precious belongings.  Feel free to come and hang out in the space, eat lunch, watch the kitties and write in the journal.

Simple Justice

I recently flew on Virgin America for the first time coming back from SF. Their planes are crazy...a little silly, but entertaining nonetheless! I wished I had a reason to try the absinthe cocktail drink they served on the plane....but I was by myself, so it would of been a little weird to do that. :P
I ended up listening to the French electro house duo, Justice, and it just reminded me how much I love their D.A.N.C.E video. Even though it's pretty old, I still love the video AND the song!
Just thought I share this.

MUSIC: Phoenix

I'm excited to hear Phoenix's new album, Wolfgang Amadeus. Yet another wonderful French rock band. I fell in love with them couple years ago because of the song, Too Young. (I'd put that song on every mix I made!)
I love their slight 80's optimistic sounds and beats!! Makes me wanna jump around!

I'm SUPER bummed that they're not stopping in Seattle during their tour to the west coast though. They're gonna play in SF and LA end of June! Totally unfair...You luck bastards who lives there!
Perhaps in the future they'll come play in Seattle....at our house. That'd be sweet....

Songs to Welcome Spring


It's been super nice in Seattle this last week, and I've been listening to this album EXIT by Shugo Tokumaru. It's been the perfect album to listen to. His music reminds me of spring and sunshine! Sounds cheesy, but once you hear it, you'll know what I mean. Thanks to Sonicboom, I picked up this album by chance when test-listening their used albums. I love finding music when I least expect it!
Shugo is a music genius who intricately weaves sounds of all sorts by using random everyday objects to classical Japanese instruments. He has collected hundreds of noise makers and often incorporates them in his music. Every song is a delightful collage of sounds that is simply wonderful to listen to over and over again. There's seriously not one song in there that I don't like. You can listen to some of his songs, here.

It's Bed Time


Saw this via Design*Sponge couple days ago. It's another magical and adorable stop-motion music video by Oren Lavi . I just had to add this to the list of stop-motion videos along with my other favs: by Labour, Hine, and the magical Origami commercial, The whole stop-motion technique is simply charming. It's as if they are bring a whole new world of magic into the reality.
It's just incredibly sweet...the sunny room, the clean sheet, the fluffy pillows, the little white socks....Le sigh...

Knocked Out!

Chika forwarded me this AWESOME video which she describes as,"people getting punched in the head at 1000 frames/sec, but much art-ier."I mean, who would of thought that punching a bunch of people would create such a work of art....It's amazing to look at people's faces as they get hit....the distortion that happens is absolutely captivating to watch! I had to watch it multiple times!! It's both comical and fascinating all at the same time.

Dance Dance Dance...

Remember my last week's post about how Goldfrapp's Happiness song makes me wanna take do-nothing-but-spin-around-breaks at work? Well, I found another great song by this lovely Swedish singer, Lykke Li to add to my dance break list. I've just finally purchased Lykke's new album 'Youth Novels'...it's SO good!! (Great cover, too) Now, I can do this dance dance dance of hers any time.
The music video captures that exact feeling that I was describing...a carefree lady in a adorable outfit dances around in the middle of a train station....

now..you don't have to do it at the station if you're no comfortable...just do it from your own home!! It's easy! It's like workingout while watching Jane Fonda's Jazzercize videos at home... yeah! It'll shave off at least 50 cals or so if you spin around for 10-15 minuntes straight....for the intermediate level, just spin around and move your arms up and down simultaneously to maximize the workout....and do a kick once or twice while you're at it, if you're REALLY up for the challenge. :D I say why the heck not! You go for it!


Okay, now get your butt off the computer chair and go spin around like you just don't care!!

Happy Happiness

This is a lovely cheerful little music video by Goldfrapp called "Happiness". One of my recent favorite videos. A young guy in a white suit, hopping through the quaint streets of London...How perfect. Her new album, Seventh Tree,has a really dreamy, free-spirited, and I-wanna-spin-around-in-circles-or-skip-and-hop-around-forever kind of feel to it...If only I have the time. Maybe I'll add that into my daily schedual and do a 10 min spin or hop around break. That's a great idea! In fact, I WILL do that! Yeah!!

Be Kind Rewind premiers tomorrow!!

I'm totally physched about the new movie, Be Kind Rewind by Michel Gondry, who directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep and also countless of amazing music videos for Bjork, The Chemical Brothers, The White Stripes, Daft Punk, Beck, and many many more.


But one of my favorite is the music video by the Chemical Brothers..."Let Forever Be." With Gondry's classic mix of hi-tech and low-tech special effects through out the video, it totally blows my mind how he made it to work so flawlessly. There's no one else like Gondry who can make cardboard props seem so magical.....
Also gotta check the movie website. They magnetizes the internet and erases everything (don't worry...its not real) and then you see an arrow curor with a wire attached to it, and foam cutout letters that spells "google." There's also a trailer where Gondry erases the original trailer for the movie and he made a sweded version with him playing all the parts speaking with a French accent.... It's pretty perfect.

DIY Felt CD case

So this is one of the first craft project of the year that I made for my close friend, Noal, who moved away to L.A. last Friday. I'm super bummed about him moving away, since we've been friends for 6 some years now. We'd watch indie/foreign films, drink tea or coffee, shop at the farmers market, go on art walks, ride on scary rides at Seattle Center, go thrift store shopping, and try new restaurants, etc. We pretty much do everything together....second to Dylan.
But I suppose now this gives me an excuse to go visit him in L.A.!! I need some sun light soon.

So as his going away gift, I made him a CD case that fits 8 CDs with CDs such as The Darjeeling limited sound track, The new Shins, Nick Drake, El Perro Del Mar, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins, The New Rilo Kiley, Toya (pre -Benyonce booty shaking music), Flight of the Conchords, and Thom Yorke.

I round up things I had in my apt/work studio (chikabird Inc.), and came up with using felt (red and tan), poka-dot ribbon, vintage buttons (that I've been waiting to use!) and a vintage heavy duty zig-zag scissor (one of my prized finds during my recent shopping for L&G.)
The format is like a folding accordion folding book with pockets on both sides that can fit 8 CDs.
Materials needed:
Main Piece: 5.5" tall X 28" wide
Pocket: 6" tall X 22.5" wide (cut both long edges with zig-zag cutter)
Cover Flap: 4" X 5.5" wide (cut one side of the long edge with zig-zag cutter)
Ribbon: Roughly 15" long
2 Buttons

First, fold the pocket piece in half the long way, and iron it flat.
At the fold, insert the main piece so then the pocket sandwich the main piece in between.
then mark lines 5.5” apart with 1/8” in between. Then in one continuous stich, sew down the pockets. as shown in the drawing below with red dotted line.


Take the ribbon and stitch down the center of the back. Then with the front of cover facing the back of the main piece, line the flat edge of cover with the top edge of main piece, stitch it down, and fold it over and top stitch it. Then the last step is to pick out your buttons and sew it, and you done!! TA-DA!!

you can make bunch of different variations depending on the fabric, ribbon and buttons you use. Also if you want more pockets, just add 5" 5/8 to the length for each additional CD slot, then you can fit as many CDs as you want! EASY!!
