I forgot how fun balloons are.... :)
We went to a really fun opening for Stacy Rozich's show at Flatcolor Gallery yesterday.
All her colorful and intricate water-colored prints are filled with humorous and rich narratives of the strangest-looking folklore creatures doing random things and acting like ironic hipsters....standing around nonchalant....smoking, drinking Rainer, playing music, cards, or causing some sort of mischief.
They look wild and crazy and all the while incredibly endearing at the same time....each carrying their own personality.
I couldn't help but to create mini conversations (with different voices and all) in my head as I looked at every print.......
Rabbit guy: "Heeeey...so I'm a little worried....I think fluffy is not feeling very well...."
Pipe guy: (playing music) "hum-dee-doo...la-did-da....HUH? what?... you said something?"
Rabbit guy: "oh...nothing, I mean....I was just trying to say that fluffy looks a little malnourished...it looks like she's loosing a lot of weight...."
Pipe guy: (inhale pipe and puff out smoke) "uh...hmmm...its probably the dogs stealing her food or whatever"
Rabbit guy: "ohmygawd...really?? you think they'd do that?!"
Pipe guy: "uh, yeah. they're dogs....they'd eat anything." (resume to playing his music)
Dogs: "grrrr...."
Tree guy: "gawd....why da hell did you make me steal this tree from your neighbor's yard?"
Gun guy: "cuz she always up in my biznezz and wouldn't shut up about everything I do"
Tree guy: "uh..so you steal her tree?...what's the point exactly?"
Gun guy: "I don't know...just so she'll learn to not F with...wait a minute....I didn't kidnap you so you can ask me all these damn questions!" (spit)
Tree guy: "all right...fine."
Bug: (in little voice) "heeey!! get back here! You guys have no rights to move the tree, I was living under there! It says here on my lease that I have every right to sue you guys! I'm a bug lawyer and I can get you guys thrown in jail!!...uh....guys..did you hear what i say!!"
Birds: "KAAAAH!"
Big guy: "WOOOO!!!! NO HANDS MOTHERF*#%ER!!"
Little green guys: (with tiny high voices from left to right)
"heeeeeell yeeeeah...rager paarrrtaaaay!!"
"ah maaaan...think i'm out of beer..."
"zzzzz...snore"
"damn it! give me back my cigarette!! stop hogging it!!"
"what, you mean this? what? you want it or something?? I thought you said you're quitting?...you really shouldn't smoke, you know...especially if you want kids and all"
"damn it, shut up, and just give me the damn cigarette!"
___________(The End)______________
Yeeeah....got a little carried a way....maybe I'm crazier than all those creatures combined...
anyways...moving on....
MUST SEE this amazing stop-motion illustrated by her for Fleet Fox that totally made my heart stop... I even teared up a bit at the end.
It's insanely beautiful and magical.... it's almost like the song and the animation were made for each other.
I'm still floating on clouds thinking about my epic golden day last Friday!!
Here's how the day went...
Dylan woke me up by bringing me breakfast in bed with some coffee and treats from Besalu pastries. Then I got kicked out for the rest of day, since Dylan had to take over the house to decorate. But I especially don't mind in cases like this. :)
I was excited to meet up with Ashley a bit to go over some new ideas we're collaborating on...here's a SNEAK PEAK!
Then I met up with my sister and got some play time with my niece, Yvette! Awww....look at her adowable worry eyebrows!
Then it was time to put on my outfit for the evening with a gold rope necklace with materials I found at Joann's of all places!
Even the sun came out to say hello....
Then bunch of friends and I went to Belle Clementine for a delicious community coursed meal.
This was one of best dinner experience with good food, good drinks, good friends and people at the restaurant. (more details about the dinner later!)
Here's a teaser photo....a glass of Lillet, some lightly pickled green olives with orange zest, and sheep's milk feta cheese over saute nettle forged from the Northwest.
Then after dinner, we went back for more partying at our house withe the whole place decked out in all sorts of gold decorations!
I also got this special giant gold gobblet to drink out of!
and then totally stuffed my face with more homemade treats & special cocktail drinks from everyone.
Thanks Dylan & everyone that came out to celebrate with me on my special day! I had the most amazing time...and I really couldn't have asked for anything more!!
xoxo
So....this is sorta kinda a big deal....well, not as big of a deal compare to the golden year...BUT still...this year, 2012, this month, March, tomorrow, the 30th......is gonna be my golden birthday!!!!
Damn right.. I'll be turning 30 on the 30th!
But I'm WAAAAAAY more excited about the GOLDEN part than some silly insignificant number!
For anyone who knows me, I'm not the type of person to make a big deal out of my birthdays...(except when it involves kareoke)
Dylan is being a TOTAL sweetheart and is planning the event, and all I know is that we'll be having an nice group community dinner at Belle Clementine, which I can't wait!!!
So all I have to worry about is how I can make myself look golden for my big day!
Yah... I know...I sound like I'm 16, but it's been awhile. :)
(Gold image and tassels above from Confetti System)
I'm not one to go all out and cover myself gold from head to toe like getting some fancy gold evening gown, sexy gold heels, and flashy gold tooth (they all go hand in hand, right?)
...BUT I'm always up for some tasteful gold accessories!
I was looking for a button up shirt with gold accents of some sort and ended up finding THIS gold collar necklace!....that's not available anymore! Bummer!!
But I think I can make something up by sewing a gold collar to go on a simple white dress shirt to classy it up!
I also really want gold polka dots tights, but can't find it anywhere!...I guess that means I'll need to make my own polka dots on my black leggings!! :D
Of course....I would need some solid dancing like THIS pair of amazing gold & black stripped shoes from Totokaelo. DROOOOOL!
Also would love this classy Gold Cambridge Satchel (and the neon yellow, too!)
I've also been wanting a gold casio calculator watch for years now.....and I ended up finding THIS 70's vintage Casio on ebay going for about $600! .....it's unbelievably awesome....
Aaaaaand while we're at it, I might as well add THIS special edition Gold Hasselblad camera going for $5,000+ to the of all the things on my list on how to look golden. Why not?
Well...actually I can think of more than a doezon of reason why I shouldn't get all that! But hey...a girl can dream right?!
But, hopefully I'll be able to get at least one of those things before the NEXT golden birthday of 50!
Go check out THREAT (opening March 9th) by AmDC that's all about weapon of defense in every shape & form.
Damn right this is a show about weapns! This is America we're talking about here!
All this is more about encouraging designers from all over America to all come together and have fun designing & create cool shiz.
Here's what we made....
Hit & Strangle Stick
Yup! You guessed it! You hit, then strangle! It's EASY!
This defense object is a sleek hitting stick made with the use aluminum and copper tubing and fishing rope inspired by dog catchers.
The simple telescoping action allows the defender to tighten the rope by pushing the aluminum tube forward and therefore can capture (and strangle) the invader from afar.
TAKE THAT!!
That'll show you to never walk in the house with your shoes on!
More sneak peak of other works below:
(Photos of Kiel Mead, and other projects provided by NYTimes)
The show opens this FRIDAY, MARCH 9th (runs from March 9 to 15) At Present Company, 29 Wythe Street (North 13th Street), Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Also read this great interview on NYTimes with Kiel Mead about the concept of the show....and other intense topics of discussions like, jail beating weapons, squirt guns with hydrochloric acid, and our dark sides.
Oh trust me...this is gonna be goooooood.
Lately, we been spending a lot of time picking out paint colors for our kitchen. But I also just end up spending too much time picking out colors just for the fun it. Thinking of some new color inspirations~!
Also I've been doing a lot of painting and been drawn to this handsome Mr. Paintbrush...especially with his sparkling eyes, sharp haircut, and warm presence....
think I'm in love with Mr. Paintbrush....
I know I really should be banned from going to anymore estate sales...and you can see why! I somehow came back with a whole box of these vintage building blocks with amazing colors & shapes.
Why did I get them?...I say, more like why NOT?!
Wooden blocks is probably one of my favorite things in the world.
It's simple, versatile, and just an amazing medium that allows anyone at any age to tap into their creative process.
Even now as an adult playing with the blocks, I find that they're extremely useful for our design process where we can play with it to quickly create mini models, explore forms, structures, and compositions.
It's just amazing how entertaining they are for the fact that they're just bunch of pieces of wood...yes, I'm very easily entertained.
Although, I have yet come up with an idea on what to make with them...
Something will come of this I'm sure...but until then I'm just gonna have a party playing with these building blocks!
Nothing gets me more than seeing tiny miniature things....like this video filmed in real life but they made it like a living diorama!
This totally reminds me of the time when Dylan & I went to the Victoria Island's Miniature World museum after Chika totally raved about it. We were probably the only people there but it was probably one of the the most unexpectedly enchanting place I've been. I think I spent more time in there than in the Louvre! Hard to believe... but true...
Just the music tickles my heart! :)
I lived in Seattle for 11 years and Dylan has been here for 20 years... and for the first time in both our lives, we got to go sailing on lake union!
We got to go with Charlie and Andrew on their classy Wino Country Safari sailboat.
What a way to start the summer!
Love the classy interior of Wino Country Safari.
Gearing up for a little patriotism before the Fourth.
Looking at Gasworks park from the water.
Moments like this reminds me why Seattle is so amazing....
Then summer in Seattle ended after the clouds came back... :P
It was fun while it lasted!!
We're filling up our camera and memory banks of incredible experiences here in Japan! So much to blog, such limited internet access!
've been MORE than obsessed with Annie Larson's knit brand, All Knitwear, for a long time now...and it's seriously amazing how she knits everything with a knitting machine. I totally get lost in time between looking at her blog with great photos of her space & process & her shop with all the fantastic wearables. Her sense of color & pattern and the way she puts it all together is simply beyond fantastic!
....and with Seattle's weather being so stupid cold & wet...I'm seriously considering getting these knitted sweater leggings! Just look how happy Annie is wearing that! I just love that photo. And of course THESE!:
One of these adorable colorful hats wouldn't be too bad either....
It's all too good...
Found this amazing but pretty hilarious photo taken by the cool peeps of Pacific Standard. They saw this crazy bird's impression left on their window pane which they assume that the bird (hawk?) was trying to attack their cat not realizing there was a window in front of it...and then ended up flying straight into the window dead on...
If only someone had actually witnessed the bird flying into the window and caught the facial impression on the birds face when it realized what they just did...as the bird peels itself off from it. That would have been priceless...
Apparently the bird was fine (besides losing it's dignity) since they didn't find the bird dead outside their window...so it's ok to laugh out loud. :)

With Seattle's moody PMS weather these days, it's making me wanna take off on a road trip and go somewhere where you see bright blue skies and the sun...even if I have to go Texas for it....Now that we're on the topic of Texas (which never happens)..... I'd just have to share this great-looking trailer camp site in Marfa, TX, called El Cosmico. The owners refurbished all these vintage trailers to its original condition with few updated details.
Staying in a mobile home has never looked this good.Great mid-century style interiors where it still seems authentic to what it used to be.
I'd love to stay in these adorable tepee as well!
That bed is calling for me....
I'd love to stay in every one of them if I could...
But apparently there IS something similar in Washington!
Our friend told us about a similar place called Sou'Wester Lodge in Seaview, WA (I've never heard of this place!) ..although not nearly as polished or glamorous as El Cosmico, this place seems to have more of a charming-quirky-bohemian-hippy-vibe to it.
The owners started collecting vintage mobile homes and decided to turn it into a lodge (read their story)....or as they like to call it a B&(MYOD)B as in ‘Bed and Make Your Own Damn Breakfast!!’
Ho ho ho..you gotta love them hippies and their tirades! What a great mash of all the awesomeness from all the different eras...you got the 50s wood paneled walls, 60's floral curtains, 70's landscape curtain, 80's pastel couch & chair, and 90's paisley patterned carpet....all harmoniously integrated into one room...just incredible.
Besides collecting mobile homes, they also collects these creepy Cabbage Patch Dolls.....Luckily this collection isn't in any of the trailers or rooms...but you might want to check under the bed...

This is as cool as Michel Gondry's legos video for The White Stripes.
Lovely song by Fujiya & Miyagi.
